The warning Unsupported Windows version detected can either be caused by a version of Windows that is too old and is no longer supported by Microsoft, or by the use of a 32‑bit operating system. The warning Unsupported SQL Server version detected is displayed by Coffalyser.Net v.240129.1959 if you currently use a 32‑bit preconfigured SQL Server.
Coffalyser.Net makes use of Microsoft SQL Server to host its database. From SQL Server 2016 onwards, only 64‑bit versions of Windows are supported by Microsoft. The preconfigured SQL Server bundled with Coffalyser.Net v.240129.1959 and later can, therefore, also no longer support 32‑bit operating systems.
Options if you currently use a 32‑bit or unsupported operating system
- Upgrade to a 64‑bit version of Windows that is still supported by Microsoft (e.g. Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022). This is the preferred solution.
- If it is not possible to upgrade the operating system, consider moving SQL Server to a network server that can use a supported 64‑bit operating system. Coffalyser.Net can be installed on a 32‑bit operating system and can connect to SQL Server on a different 64‑bit network server. More information about database migration.
Options if you currently use a 32‑bit preconfigured SQL Server
- Microsoft does not offer a way to upgrade a 32‑bit version of SQL Server to a 64‑bit version. Therefore, your only option to switch to a 64‑bit version is to create a backup of your data, uninstall the 32‑bit version of SQL Server, install a new (preconfigured) version of SQL Server, and migrate the data to the new server. Contact us for support if required.
- You can also use this opportunity to migrate the data to an SQL Server that runs elsewhere within your network. This can be particularly beneficial for larger organisations.
