We use version numbers to make sure that changes to a product are noticed by our customers. Our version numbering scheme differs slightly for different types of products. Details about the changes between versions are always indicated in the appropriate product documentation.

SALSA MLPA Probemixes and SALSA digitalMLPA Probemixes

The first version of a probemix is always called A1. A minor change to the contents of the probemix is indicated by a change in the number, such as A1 to A2. A major change is indicated by a change in the letter, such as A2 to B1.

Major changes encompass the most important changes from a customer's perspective, such as addition or removal of target probes. Minor changes are less important from a customer's perspective and include things like most alterations to reference probes.

The version numbering system is similar for MLPA and for digitalMLPA, but there are some differences due to the specifics of both technologies. For example, changes to target probes that do not affect the probe's ligation site are considered to be minor changes in conventional MLPA. For digitalMLPA, such changes are considered to be major. The reason for this difference is that minor alterations to conventional MLPA probes are relatively common, for example to fine-tune the exact length of a probe, while this is only done with a very good reason in the case of digitalMLPA, where probe lengths are not important.

SALSA Melt Assays

Melt Assays have a major version indicated by a letter. The first version is always called A. Significant changes to the composition of the product will result in a change in letter, such as A to B.

Lot numbers

Our products also have lot numbers that indicate the production batch. New versions will always have new lot numbers, but there can be more than one lot for the same version. Lot numbers for MLPA probemixes and Melt Assays are composed of four digits (e.g. 0119).
